Meet Dr. Tucker
Dr. Karen A. Tucker grew up in the Southwest, in warm and sunny Phoenix, Arizona. She is happy to now call the ‘Famously Hot’ city of Columbia home! She attended Arizona State University with a full academic scholarship and received her Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish, graduating with honors. She transitioned to the Midwest for her professional training and completed a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Creighton University School of Dentistry, in 2011, again awarded academic honors. She subsequently entered her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, an integrated dual degree program, which included the study of medicine and the pursuit of a Medical Doctorate (MD). In addition to her advanced medical background, Dr. Tucker also completed a General Surgery Internship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, expanding her surgical knowledge and experience.
During her full-scope training, Dr. Tucker developed a passion for helping patients with cleft and craniofacial deformities. She travels annually on international mission trips to provide life-changing surgeries for patients in under-served countries. Dr. Tucker has also presented research at many national conferences and is a published author. She has participated in research in the areas of three dimensional anatomical radiographic analysis, dento-alveolar surgery, cleft reconstruction surgery and dental implants.
Dr. Tucker is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. She is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the South Carolina Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Society, the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association and Greater Columbia Dental Association. She is co-director of the South Carolina Academy of Advanced Implant Studies, with Drs. Dootson and Clary. Dr. Tucker serves on hospital staff at Palmetto Health Richland and Baptist Hospitals. She is part of the Facial Trauma team at Richland Hospital, a Level-One Trauma Center, treating the most severe facial injuries in the midlands.
Dr. Tucker is proud military wife; her husband serves as an officer in the JAG Corps of the United States Air Force. Her hobbies include running full and half marathons, yoga, golf, hiking and cooking. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
